Happy Lunar/Chinese New Year!
My family and I somehow managed to celebrate for four days straight...?!
Wed 18 Feb - I prayed to my ancestors and gods (inc. sky god) before school using jos sticks, and placing food out. While I was at school, my grandparents burnt 'money' (printed/gold flecked paper). I think this is such a great tradition - one of the few days I get to practice Buddhist/ Confucian 'rituals.' I remember doing this for as long as I can remember...
Thurs 19 Feb - Actual day of Chinese New Year. That night, I went to my grandparent's house to take these photos before their dinner party began! I managed to take about 10 before some guests arrived and came outside (I had to act sus and pretend I was taking photos of the garden.. hehe) but I later got my sister to help me take some photos (she's in the white cheongsam). I entered a food coma and it wouldn't be a celebration without a food baby!
Fri 20 Feb - For the past few years, I've been spending the days close to the new year with a group of family friends, who also happen to be 2 of my best friends - Sera and Nicole along with their family! We had dinner at Nicole's house, which called for outfit repeating! The food was amazing and we were outside playing with sparklers for about an hour. It was amazing. The night ended with the clouds bursting and heavy rainfall. I drove about 40km/h the whole way home...
Sat 21 Feb - Let's count this as a semi-celebration.. I went out to dinner with my 2 cousins and their parents, my family and my grandparents. It was lovely and we often go to this restaurant! It's one of those places that I've been to since I was a child... and my grandparent's know the owners (I swear they're friends with everyone though!)
It was such a lovely four days spent with family and friends and I always seem to be looking forward to Chinese New Year. I guess it's strange because this time next year uni/college will be beginning and i'll be finished high school for good...
I do wish you a great new year and gong xi fa cai!
